Besides plastic, what window covers will keep out the cold?

I’m thinking of buying wool army blankets for every window.
Is that the warmest and cheapest thing?

Plastic may plug up drafts, but it has never kept the house warm.

That might be a good solution, if you have a place to buy them at a good price. I usually put up a heavier curtain or drapery in the cold weather. I like to be able to open them when the sun is coming in. I also close the blinds in the evening.
I don’t think the plastic works all that well either. Good luck keeping warm!

Sounds like you are in an old house with single pane windows. Go to Home Depot and talk to them about weather stripping your windows and doors. Check all the outlets on outside walls too. They make an insert you can put under the cover plate to stop drafts. You might look into the plastic that you heat up and it forms a tight seal on the windows. Insulated drapes would help a lot as well. Good Luck!!
