How does 68W work for females?
I heard that men are the only ones that would be assigned to infantry/combat units as a 68W but does that mean that women wouldn’t be assigned to any units that go outside the “safe” areas? Will we pretty much just be sent to the hospitals?
I’ve seen 68W’s get insulted when new recruits say they signed on to be combat medics because a 68W is a medic but only those who have actually been in combat earn the “combat medic” which makes sense. But does that mean it’s only the guys that usually would become that because they’re the ones assigned to infantry units?
Someone answering a question about 68W talked about how much the unit cares about one another and how important the medic of their unit is to them all. How the medic becomes “doc” to them. And was just wondering if that only will end up happening for the men because women may not get assigned to any units like that.
It’s not that I need recognition or praise for what I’d do. It’s that I like the idea of having that kind of camaraderie and being a part of the brotherhood of the Army even if I’m one of the “sisters” in it (I use brotherhood as a blanket term to include both the men and women involved).
