ex: Global War on Terrorism Service medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary medal…(got those while I was in, but have heard that others have been issued since)
Am I bound to what the dd214 states. I have a buddy who got out before I did, and his 214 didnt show the awards listed above (US Army) Just wondering if he’s authorized them.

You are “bound” by whats on your DD214. If it’s not on there you didn’t get it and if you get it later you will be notified and given a new “updated DD214″.

    Thanks for your service!!!

Besides if you are out then what do you care. Some soldiers are worry way to much about what ribbons they have. What does it matter. I would like to give many of mine back. Most medals have been cheapened to the point of not mattering anyways. Plus the more you have the more they cost and the harder they are to keep straight.

The quick and easy answer is that you should contact the VA who can get those awards that you are authorized to have included on your DD214. The military/politicians created the medals, you are authorized to have them, you should get them. Don’t let anyone tell you different. Only you can cheapen your own medals. I believe you only need to submit your DD214 showing your periods of service to the Military Personnel and Records Center for verification and they will update it for you.
