Is falling backwards a stupid thing to be afraid of?

army blanket
K is for Katie asked:

When I say “falling backwards” I mean anything that involves heights and of course coming down backwards. When I was in army cadets, we had to repel backwards down a large stair case, and I was shaking so bad all the way down. It took them 15 minutes to get me to actually do it in the first place. Then, at the camp I went to, we had to get up on a picnic table and fall off backwards onto a blanket. I kept saying ” Please no, I really don’t want to ” I had to keep telling them no until I couldn’t talk and all I could do was shake my head. I was so close to tears, that it wasn’t even funny. I don’t know why this freaks me out so much, but it just does. Is this dumb?
btw, I’m 14.

Well I do know that every human is born with the fear of falling and loud noises, some unlearn them, and some don’t. And yes, that fear is normal. Trust me, there are stranger phobias out there!
