We already do these things. Freecycle has people willing to give things they have to people who want them. When a child leaves home the family normally gives them furniture when they replace and household items that are excess even giving them housewarming parties with useful gifts. We give young adults gift cards to grocery stores and most families invite them home for frequent meals. Handing down clothing is pretty common too. Parent have spent years teaching the kids how to fix things and often come to help remodel first houses. We give young people cars and other things when they need them. After they are about 25 we expect them to stand on their own two feet.
When my nephew bought his first house I gave him a truck and boat and living room furniture and his grandma gave him dinning room furniture, his dad helped remodel. Now he is 39 he is helping his dad remodel his new house. Using the truck I gave him to haul stuff for him. His grandma is living with his dad now and if needed he will do stuff for her. We all painted the new house for them and helped everybody move.

Interesting thought process, but the problem goes much deeper. How does your plan help the middle class worker who has been laid off due the economic slowdown and cannot pay their mortgage? How does your plan help the thousands of businesses now losing money as the demand for their product has slowed or stopped? How does your plan avoid the need for hundreds of billions of dollars for all these bailouts? How does your plan help the millions out of work? By not buying new clothes, I'm guessing your plan might put more of them out of work. We as a nation have been living beyond our means for decades now. We maintained our lifestyle by assuming more debt and keeping the economy hotter than it could be maintained. And now we are paying the price. Bottom line, for the next couple of decades our standard of living will be less than what it has been. For the first time in our history, the next generation may be well less off than the previous one. It is incumbent upon us and our children to get a better education so we can be a more efficient country and obtain more of the higher paying jobs in the future. Being more altruistic with our old clothes or our food is not enough to cut it.

you are living in utopia!(look it up)

peace and happiness isn't always reality.

there will ALWAYS be those who disagree.

the only thing we can do is lower taxes because this raises the motive to work harder, which in turn creates jobs.

poor people aren't the ones that deserve ALL attention.
they are the ones who are lazy and usually don't have descent jobs

I know for a fact that if you help someone that is financially irresponsible they will go out and buy something such as the newest cell phone.
What we need to do is educate.
