LadyB!™ asked:

There are many topics discussed here that divide us, do you think this is something we can agree on:

The US Marine featured in this article is a true American hero and patriot?

A Marine sergeant who became a symbol of resilience as he strove to recover from a roadside bomb blast in Iraq that blanketed 97 percent of his body with burns has died, the Defense Department said. He was 22.

Sgt. Merlin German died April 11 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, where he was continuing treatment for the injuries he suffered in combat on Feb. 22, 2005, the Pentagon said Thursday.

Yes he is a hero. However, you will never convince those freaks in code pink or the westboro baptist church of that.

I just read your post: if this young man suffered his injuries in 2005 then he suffered for 3 long years and if he was only 22 when he died then he was 18 or 19 when he went to war. I can only say that I am one of the lucky moms who had her son back after he went to a tour in Iraq—and that I resent this government strongly for the fact that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and even if it was “Freedom for Iraqi people”, we took Hussein out, so why are we still in this war? Violence is excalating to no end, our boys and girls get killed and maimed, and no end in sight. Worst of all, when those who come back with post traumatic stress disorders and other physical disabilities, they get discarded from the military as useless. It’s almost like this government doesn’t care a bit about those young people and so I feel for the family and the friends of this young man who suffered for such a long time.
